I was born and brought up in Southern Africa i.e. what was then Northern & Southern Rhodesia (now Zambia & Zimbabwe). For the first 16 years of my life our family lived on mines first on the copper belt in Northern Rhodesia and then in the bush veld of Southern Rhodesia. I have been drawing and painting since childhood.

I studied art and architecture in London, first at the Hornsey College of Art and subsequently at Westminster University (Regent Street Polytechnic) under Sir Lawrence Gowing and Sir Frank Auerbach, among others, before returning to Africa for some years. Later attended a summer course in watercolours at the Royal College, Kensington, under the tutelage of Stan Smith, Jacqueline Ritzvi and David Gluck.

In Rhodesia, I ran an art class at the Adult Education Centre of Bulawayo and also exhibited my work in the National Galleries of Salisbury (Harare) and Bulawayo.

Since returning to Britain in 1975, I have continued working in many different mediums and have exhibited widely, mostly with other artists. I have held solo exhibitions at the Royal College of Pathology in Carlton House Terrace, London in 2002 and at the Highgate Scientific and Literary Institute Gallery, London, in 2012 "For the love of London". In July 2014 I had a solo exhibition "Flore et Faune" in Beaumont du Perigord, France and in 2017, a solo exhibition, in South Africa, at The Cape Gallery "Beside the seaside".

For the past thirty years I have been printmaking and learned most of the techniques of printmaking from John Roberts. In the latter part of that period I was also in a class under Peter Freeth RA.

My work is regularly exhibited at the Royal Free Hospital where there is a permanent showcase of some of my prints. I have also exhibited work at The University College Hospital, in several shows in Highgate, in Hertfordshire,in the annual shows of Lloyd’s Art Group, with The Camden Printmakers and in well-known London Galleries including:-

  • The Mall Galleries (annual open exhibitions of the Royal Society of Oil Painters, The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and the National Print Exhibitions)
  • The Bankside Gallery (open exhibition of the Royal Watercolour Society)
  • The Royal Academy (Summer Exhibitions)
  • Llewellyn-Alexander Gallery W1
  • W.H. Patterson Gallery– Albermarle St. W1(Venice in Peril Exhibition)

In London I am a member of the "Drawing London" Group and the Highgate Life Drawing group as well as the Highgate Watercolour Group.

I was, for some years, a member of the South African Society of Artists(SASA) and won several awards for printmaking at their Annual Exhibitions.

My work hangs in many private collections around the world.
